My love of travel began with summer family camping adventures around Canada and northern U.S. Our trip to the west coast when I was a teenager sparked a yearning that would bring me back to B.C. years later to live permanently. In 2005 I was able to fulfill a long-held dream when I purchased a 15-year-old dark blue Chevy campervan I called ‘Rita.’ For the next two years I took many road trips to the U.S. Southwest, and spent rain-free winter months in the deserts of southern California and Arizona, writing and photographing. These shots are from two trips I made to New Mexico, self-proclaimed Land of Enchantment. Rita has since retired but I am planning a return trip next year in my new van, ‘Frieda.’
